Family-centred Irish Sign Language (ISL).

Our six week programme of Family-centred ISL will start next Wednesday, 15th May, 6.15pm – 7.30pm at our Resource Centre.

All the family are welcome.

Separate classes for adults and children running at the same time. This six-week programme will help parents, grandparents, siblings and other family members to understand the basic structure of ISL; variations in language (many signs for the same English word): ISL grammar and other important features. Vocabulary will be supported via our ISL everywhere website & iPhone app.

Children’s ISL classes will be delivered through age appropriate play, games and activities. This course is free but registration is vital as places are limited. For further information or to book a place please contact Theresa on 0879163168 or email sec@sharingthejourney.ie

Speech & Language Services for 0 to 6 year-olds

Is your child under 6 years old? Does your child have access to Community Speech & Language Services? Does you child attend a private Speech and Language Service?

Over the past few months parents have been sharing their concerns regarding access to Community Speech and Language Services. In response to parents’ concerns Sharing the Journey are considering various ways to help while families are awaiting access to services.
We would appreciate your help with our research. Please consider completing this short anonymous survey, it is not scientific research but it will give an indication as to the gaps in services and how we can offer support..

ISL everywhere

Just launched !

Here is the link to ISL everywhere  our mobile language resource for parents and families learning Irish Sign Language  http://www.sharingthejourney.ie/mobile

This a beta test with 50 signs, alphabet and numbers 1-10. For the next two weeks you will have an opportunity to give feedback and make suggestions regarding the features and functionality of the mobile website. We will then do our best to incorporate your suggestions into the final build before loading over 1,000 signs and phrases  fairy tales and language learning. The smart phone and tablet apps will follow in May. We hope you enjoy using ISL everywhere and look forward to your feedback.

A six-week parent and baby programme combining Baby Massage and Early Sign Language.

The programme is specifically designed for parents of d/Deaf and hard of hearing babies

Family Centred Early Intervention Initiative

As part of our ‘Family Centred Early Intervention Initiative’,  Sharing the Journey are offering the following programmes for parents, families and carers of d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. All programmes will run at our Parent Resource Centre, dates and times will be arranged in consultation with families who express an interest. Child care can be arranged at our centre. Programmes are free of charge to ‘Sharing the Journey’ families

 

  • An Introduction to Good Communication Principles.

This is a four week programme, delivered by a Speech and Language therapist. The programme combines three two-hour group seminars and an individual session for you and your child, during which you are videoed practicing some of the communication strategies introduced during the seminars. The therapist will then review the video with you to see how these strategies are helping your child and how they might be improved. This is not a ‘Hanen Programme’, however, the programme aims to equip parents with invaluable skills to support their child’s emerging language and give an insight into the Hanen ‘It Takes Two to Talk’ programme. Capacity 10 families

 

  • It Takes Two to Talk® - The Hanen Program® 

The ‘It Takes Two to Talk Program’ was specifically designed for parents of children with language delays. In a comfortable small group setting, you’ll learn how you can build your child’s language skills naturally during everyday routines and activities.   This programme is delivered over six three-hour seminars and four home visits. Capacity 10 families

  • Family Centred ISL

An introduction to ISL for Families of d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers. This six week programme will focus on ISL structure and grammar and will help you build a vocabulary of the most frequently used words / signs in a young child’s daily life. This course is designed to complement ISL home tuition and is suitable for ISL learners of all levels. Capacity 10 families

Baby, Toddler & Pre-schooler Play Dates with Claphandies and Simply Signing

11am to 1pm at Sharing the Journey Resource Centre, Ratoath Road, Dublin 7.
